Varna hosts 11th European Music Festival from March 15 to April 11 2014

The 11th European Music Festival, hosted by the city of Varna  started with a concert in Varna’s Opera House on March 15 .  he “French Impressions” symphonic concert is a co-production of the Theater and Music Production Center in Varna. Violinist Svetlin Rusev, pianists Milko Milkov and Vania Pesheva and the Varna Symphonic Orchestra took part. French works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were featured.

The festival will be held between March 15 and April 11. Audiences will welcome some of the most famous international musicians from St. Petersburg, Paris and Berlin, as well as Bulgarian artists of world renown

The next highlight will be the “Russian Fireworks” concert of violoncello quartet Rastreli on March 18. The project includes hallmarks by Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rahmaninov and Prokofiev as well as jazz pieces.

Violinist Mario Hosen and the Orpheus Academic Orchestra of the New Bulgarian University will perform in “Violin Extravaganza” on March 28. Music fans will delight in the performances of works by Gluck, Paganini, Sarasate, Tartini and others of that caliber.

The German piano trio Oberon will perform on April 1. Among its members is Bulgarian violoncellist Antoaneta Emanuilova.

Baroque ensemble Bardi will perform on April 8. Its members are Kalin Panayotov and Valentin Metodiev (oboe), Svetoslav Slavchev (fagot) and Tsvetelina Dimcheva (cembalo). The concert program includes works by Czech Baroque composer Jan Zelenka.

The festival will end with a concert by the Big Band Brass Association and Angel Zaberski. The program includes performances of original music by Angel Zaberski, T. Jones, B. Brookmayer and others.
