From 15 to 30 July, Varna is hosting the 25th International Ballet Competition. The event is underway under the auspices of UNESCO. The competition goes through three rounds. In the first round 66 contenders from 20 countries demonstrate classical choreography skills. The second round is given to contemporary works. The final third round combines classical dancing and dancing to contemporary works.

From 1966 the competition is held every year and since then every other even year usually in the period 15 – 30 July. The main stage of the competition is Open-air Theater – Varna.
